Richard L. Brusca is a retired litigator and Partner from the Washington, D.C. based office of the highly respected law firm; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. As Sequoia Security Group’s Chief Operating Officer, he serves as the internal leader who assisted with both the creation and implementation of the firm’s five year strategic plan. Richard brings from Skadden Arps over 30 years of proven leadership and is recognized worldwide for his ability to manage high level issues and problem solving abilities through his well established partnerships. Richard has an extensive background in the development of effective crisis communication strategies and preparing for and managing any event. Richard was selected to lead the Sequoia Team based upon his crisis management skills, strategic vision and trusted global partnerships.

At Skadden Arps, Richard established his tenancious abilities by successfully defending major corporations and corporate executives in cases alleging fraud under the federal securities laws, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and the common law of various states. He has won dismissals of such actions or settled on veryfavorable terms, throughout the United States, including federal courts in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, as well as in Alabama, Texas and New York. Richard has successfully represented health care and pharmaceutical companies, investment banks, accounting and consulting firms along with other financial institutions as well as energy companies. As an accomplished litigator, Richard’s vast experience in both the state and federal court level in the areas of contracts, fraud, class action and employment discrimination cases, provides Sequoia Security Group with the requisite expertise to support and consult the needs of our clients. In addition, Richard has tried numerous cases in states across the country, including Maryland, Washington, D.C., Oklahoma and Texas. He has also represented manufacturing companies in trademark infringement, counterfeit goods and “gray market” merchandise cases for fragrance, food, health and beauty aid companies. Mr. Brusca also represented corporate defendants in subprimerelated litigation.

Richard has extensive experience where he represented non-U.S. clients in cases litigated in the United States. In addition to companies and individuals, he has represented the government of the Hellenic Republic of Greece and certain of its cabinet officials. He also has acted as counsel for the government of Puerto Rico in cases challenging the constitutionality of certain regulatory programs. His most recent and gratifying pro bono representation was his appointment as counsel to the Virginia Governor’s panel investigating the shootings at Virginia Tech.

Richard is actively involved with the American University, Washington College of Law, serving on its Dean’s Advisory Council. He also served as a committee member (and former chairman) of the D.C. Area Father’s Day Council, which raises money for the American Diabetes Association and as a fundraiser of the Food and Friends Organization, located in Washington, D.C. When not overseeing the day to day operations at Sequoia Security Group, Richard is out enjoying world class hunts with his close friends and family.
